About Your Trainer
Tres Adames not only provides counseling for emotional and relational health, but also coaching for physical health as well. He provides personal training and lifestyle coaching for those looking to improve their level of fitness and wellbeing. Tres is a Certified Personal Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). Here he discusses his story and the approach he uses with clients:
As a counselor, I not only ask clients about their emotional and spiritual wellbeing, but make a point to inquire about their physical health as well. In the modern world, when we talk about the body and the soul, we often separate the two, when in fact, they are very much interconnected. Just take a moment to consider how much your mood is affected by a lack of sleep or from being hungry for too long.
On the flip-side, being emotionally unwell can also cause us to not get enough sleep, to over-eat, to undereat, or to neglect exercise. All these factors influence one another and create unhealthy cycles where we end up feeling off -- emotionally, physically, and even relationally.
I have struggled with my weight throughout different parts of my life. In my early twenties, I lost 60 pounds through a low carb diet and long-distance running and was able to keep it off for several more years. In my mid-thirties, my weight began to come back. I was later diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At the time, I was struggling with lethargy and depression until my doctor decided to do some blood work. With the help of the appropriate medication, as well as a diet and exercise plan, I was able to lose 60 pounds again over the course of a year and my depression also lifted. As a result, I wanted to share this knowledge and inspiration with others. This is why I decided to pursue becoming a certified personal trainer in addition to my work as a counselor.
I do not push extreme dieting or offer any quick fixes. My goal is sustainability and helping you create a plan that you will stick with. Often, people push themselves into extreme diets and exercise plans where they punish themselves to the point where they lose a little weight, then put it back on after they stop (and sometimes even gain more as a result). Fitness is a long game. The product of years of unhealthy habits cannot be fixed overnight. They have to be replaced by consistent healthy habits that reap their reward over time.
Let me know if you are interested in working with me. As a Certified Personal Trainer, I offer training online or in person at my home fitness studio in Phoenix or will come to you and train you in your own home. I also implement life coaching into the process and work with individuals on harnessing their inner motivation and building their confidence, which is critical for making lasting change.
